OUR ADOPTION PROCESS
How it Works
The goal of Boston Buddies is to place rescued Boston Terriers in loving, permanent homes. We strive to place each dog in the most suitable home based on that dog’s unique personality and individual needs. For this reason, we utilize a thorough adoption process. The adoption process consists of:
- a completed Adoption Application
- interview/home check
- veterinary and/or personal reference checks
- Adoption Agreement
- adoption donation fee
- and whenever possible, post-adoption home visits
- Please be aware that we adopt ONLY to the local Southern California area.
ADOPTION APPLICATION:
Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescued Boston Terrier! If you would like to be considered as a prospective adoptive parent, please complete our new and improved Adoption Application online and submit it via email or print it out and submit it via fax or US Mail as set forth on the form. (Please note that there may be some delay in processing Applications submitted by US Mail).

Please note that completion of an Adoption Application does not mean you will automatically be approved to adopt a dog, nor does it guarantee that you will be able to adopt a specific dog once you are approved. Incomplete Applications will not be processed.
Upon our receipt of an Adoption Application, it is reviewed and given preliminary approval for further processing. At that time one of our volunteers will contact you to schedule the required home check, and our Applications Coordinator will contact you to discuss the Bostons currently in our rescue. If we don’t have the perfect Boston Rescue for you at that time please don’t be discouraged, there is always another one coming into rescue down the road that might be better suited for you.
We are always anxious to pre-approve an applicant, even if we currently don’t have a rescue Boston right for you and your home immediately available.
COSTS:
The veterinary costs for our rescued dogs are paid by your generous donations. For this reason we do require an adoption donation. Adoption donations vary based on the age and health of the dog, and typically range from $100 to $600 or more. One hundred percent of adoption donations are used to cover the costs associated with the medical care of our rescued dogs. Each dog is examined by a veterinarian and provided with all necessary and reasonable medical treatment, heartworm and fecal tested, vaccinated, spayed or neutered if necessary and micro-chipped.
OUR ADOPTION POLICY AND THE ADOPTION AGREEMENT:
We would like to take this opportunity to set forth Boston Buddies’ policies concerning the adoption of our rescue dogs. As stated above, the goal of Boston Buddies is to place rescued and relinquished Boston Terriers and Boston Terrier mixes in loving, permanent homes. At the time of adoption, our adopters sign an Adoption Agreement that confirms the adopter will care for the rescue dog as expressed in the contract.

SCREENING PROCESS:
Most of our dogs are fostered in our members’ homes so that we can screen the dog and know what type of home is best for that specific dog (whether the home requires no cats, no other dogs, no low fences, no small children, needs a yard, a doggie door, etc.). Each dog is different, and each requires a certain type of home. We screen the dog for our adopters so that we can match up the dog with the right home. We also screen the home and family for the right dog.
LIFELONG COMMITMENT:
Boston Buddies takes great pride in screening our dogs and our prospective adopters in order to ensure a great match and that the dog will never have to be re-homed again. That being said, we have had placements that did not work out, and the new adopter requests that we take the dog back into our rescue program so that we can find the right home for that dog. Our adopters appreciate that we do not want a dog to stay in a home that is not right for the dog or the family, and they are grateful we are here to accept the dog back into our program.
RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Boston Buddies requires that if the dog does not work out or cannot, for any reason or at any time, stay in the adoptive home, that Boston Buddies be contacted and arrangements made to return the dog. Just as an adoption agency of a child would require that the child be returned to the agency and not given away to a friend, neighbor, or other family member, our rescues are living beings and cannot be traded or given away. Boston Buddies has had situations where the adoptive owner has passed away or gone into a nursing home, and the family requests that the dog be allowed to stay with the family. We have never objected to those requests if the dog will continue to be cared for in the manner that the owner cared for the dog and in accordance with our contract.
Boston Buddies includes the right to retrieve a dog from a home that has violated the terms of the Adoption Agreement to enable us to fulfill our commitment to protect the dogs we are entrusted with. We are an adoption agency of rescued dogs, many of whom have been abandoned once or twice already. We are committed to their well being for their lifetime.
We have assisted over 2000 dogs in need since our inception.
We thank the families who welcomed our rescues into their homes.
We thank you for your continued support, and we welcome any questions concerning our policies or our Adoption Agreement.
